We must be familiar with the figure of Michelle Yeoh, the Malaysian actress who has been active in the film industry for over 40 years.

Now she is in the spotlight because her movie Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) won 7 Oscars and Michelle Yeoh won the Best Actress category at the 2023 Oscars, that make her be the first Asian woman in history to win that category.

Michelle Yeoh's Career Journey

Michelle Yeoh or her other name Michelle Khan, was born on August 6, 1962 in Malaysia. According to imdb.com, she is of Hokkien descent and can speaks English, Malay, and Mandarin.

During her childhood, Michelle was an active child who enjoyed various physical activities, such as basketball and swimming. Additionally, she was very interested in ballet.

According to Britannica.com, as a teenager, Michelle attended the Royal Academy of Dance in London. However, because of a back injury, Michelle had to end her dream of becoming a professional ballet dancer.

In 1983, Michelle Yeoh's mother entered her into the Miss Malaysia pageant, and she won. After that she starred in a commercial together with Jackie Chan.

Britannica.com, explained that because of the commercial Michelle Yeoh was offered an acting contract with a production company in Hong Kong and then the company suggested the name ‘Michelle Khan’ as her stage name.

In 1984, she started her first film debut in a movie entitled Mao Tou Ying Yu Xiao Fei Xiang or The Owl vs Bombo.

Next, she starred in an action movie entitled Huang Jia Shi Jie or Yes, Madam! and her performance in that film earned her numerous offers for roles in other action films.

Michelle Yeoh also dedicated her award to her mother and to all mothers in the world.

“They are the real superheroes and without them none of us would be here tonight.”
