Grab will partner with Chinese automaker BYD to introduce up to 50,000 electric vehicles (EVs) to its driver-partners in Southeast Asia. The collaboration aims to expand EV adoption in the region, which has faced challenges due to high upfront costs.

Six countries will benefit from the partnership: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Empower Drivers with EVs

Through this partnership, Grab's fleet partners and drivers will gain access to BYD vehicles at competitive prices, along with extended EV battery warranties. They can also opt to rent electric vehicles or receive financing support for vehicle ownership.

Additionally, the partnership aims to increase the availability of eco-friendly vehicles for Grab users. In Singapore and Thailand, users can even select green vehicles at no extra cost.

Grab and BYD will also integrate advanced technologies between BYD vehicles and the Grab platform to enhance user experiences.

As part of the collaboration, the Grab driver app will be directly integrated into the head unit of BYD vehicles, enabling drivers to access jobs, navigation, and chat features on a larger screen without relying on their phones.

Drivers will also receive real-time insights to help improve driving behavior. Grab leverages live vehicle data, such as speed and windshield wiper signals, to optimize driver allocation to high-demand areas and provide more accurate estimated arrival times.

This partnership further enhances navigation by incorporating data and hyperlocal maps from Grab, making journeys more efficient.

Luxury Meets Sustainability in Grab's EVs

This collaboration includes a range of EV models, such as the Denza D9 multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), BYD Atto 3, BYD Seal, and BYD M6. Grab also plans to feature the premium electric MPV Denza D9 as the flagship vehicle for its GrabExec fleet, offering a luxurious seven-seater experience.

By introducing the Denza D9, Grab aims to set a new standard for executive transportation, prioritizing comfort, style, and sustainability.
