Manchester City has advanced to the FA Cup final for the 2024-2025 season. In the final match, which will take place on May 17th at Wembley Stadium in London, City will face Crystal Palace.

City secured their place in the final after defeating Nottingham Forest 2-0 at Wembley on Sunday (27/4). Meanwhile, Palace earned their spot in the final after overcoming Aston Villa with a 3-0 victory on Saturday (26/4).

In the semifinal match on Sunday (27/4), City's two goals were scored by Rico Lewis (2’) and Josko Gvardiol (51’).

Palace silenced Villa's supporters with goals from Eberechi Eze (31’) and a brace from Ismaila Sarr (58’, 90+4’).

After the match, City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, in an interview with ESPN, said that the FA Cup result gives his team the potential to win a title this season. This is because the other two domestic trophies have already been claimed by two other teams.

Newcastle United won the League Cup, while Liverpool secured the English Premier League crown.

“The past has shown that (winning the FA Cup) is not the standard we set for ourselves. We know that things have not been good enough on our part throughout the season,” said Gundogan.

“What has happened, we cannot change. We can only accept it and be honest with ourselves. It is important to acknowledge to ourselves that we have fallen behind other clubs this season,” continued the former German national team player.

Indeed, City was initially favored to win the English Premier League title for the 2024-2025 season. However, player injuries shattered City's dreams.
