Liverpool manager Arne Slot has secured the Premier League title for the 2024-2025 season. What makes Slot's Premier League trophy special is that only four managers before him have managed to achieve this feat.
Yes, the Dutch manager has joined the ranks of the world's top managers who have won the Premier League in their debut season. They are Jose Mourinho at Chelsea in the 2004-2005 season, followed by Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea in the 2009-2010 season.
Next is Manuel Pellegrini at Manchester City in the 2013-2014 season, and Antonio Conte at Chelsea in the 2016-2017 season.
In the history of Liverpool FC, Slot has become the third person to lead the club to the title in his debut season. Before Slot, there were Joe Fagan in the 1983-1984 season and Kenny Dalglish in the 1985-1986 season.
"Of course, I am extremely, extremely happy, but at some point, this victory feels almost surreal," Slot said, as quoted by Yahoo Sport. "You have worked so hard for this moment to happen, and when it actually does, you need time to truly absorb it. The fans are so happy that I don't need much time to understand what we have achieved together this season," Slot continued.
"It's incredibly special. It's a proud moment when I knew I would be the new head coach here, becoming part of this great football club, and now being part of the club's history is something I could only dream of three or four years ago," Slot said after the 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday (27/4).
Slot's achievement has surpassed that of Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. Guardiola failed to win the Premier League in his debut season in 2016-2017.
Guardiola won the Premier League title in the 2017-2018 season, his second season.
Meanwhile, Klopp also failed to win the Premier League in his debut season in 2015-2016. It was only in the 2019-2020 season, five years later, that Klopp became the champion.
