In recent years, the trend of slow travel has been gaining popularity among travelers seeking more meaningful experiences at their destinations. Instead of rushing through a checklist of attractions, slow travel encourages a deeper connection with a place, its local culture, people, and authentic cuisine.

According to Agoda’s latest report, five Southeast Asian destinations have been named among the top nine slow travel destinations in Asia, based on the average length of stay between January and March 2025. Let’s take a closer look!

Rayong, Thailand

Located on the eastern coast of the Gulf of Thailand, Rayong ranks first as the top slow travel destination according to Agoda. This seaside town is known for its laid-back lifestyle and tranquil atmosphere, perfect for travelers looking to reconnect with nature and themselves.

What can you do here? Feast on freshly caught seafood straight from local fishing boats, explore nearby islands like Koh Samet, or simply relax under the shade of coconut trees.

Rayong is also home to the Rayong Fruit Festival every May, a vibrant celebration featuring fruit parades, competitions, and special promotions. According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the best time to visit is between November and February, when the weather is cool and dry, with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 30°C.

Kalegowa, Indonesia

Here, travelers can explore local markets, savor traditional dishes like Coto Makassar, and enjoy gentle treks through natural trails. A visit to Fort Somba Opu, a 16th-century remnant of the Gowa Kingdom, and the Karaeng Pattingalloang Museum, which houses cultural artifacts, is a must.

For history enthusiasts, Kalegowa offers a living lesson in the legacy and enduring traditions of South Sulawesi.
