What happens when installation art meets ancient philosophy and an artist's personal interpretation? The answer can be found at ArtJog 2025 in a piece called Eudaimonia. This is not just an exhibition; it is an experience that invites the public to explore an actor's creative journey through an unexpected medium.

ArtJog itself is one of the most prestigious contemporary art festivals in Indonesia, held annually in Yogyakarta. The event is renowned for showcasing progressive and experimental works by both local and international artists.

One of the main highlights this year is Eudaimonia, part of Refleksi Dua Dasarasa by Reza Rahadian, one of Indonesia’s most prominent actors, presented under the Spotlight program.

This piece is a cross-disciplinary collaboration with leading names in Indonesia’s art scene: Davy Linggar (photographer and videographer), Andra Matin (architect), Garin Nugroho (film director), Siko Setyanto (choreographer), and Kasimyn, also known as Aditya Surya Taruna (composer).

Eudaimonia: Greek Philosophy in a Space of Contemplation

In Ancient Greek philosophy, eudaimonia refers to a state of well-being achieved through fulfillment of life’s purpose and meaning. It is not about fleeting happiness, but a deep sense of wholeness that arises when one lives in alignment with their full potential.

For Reza as an actor, eudaimonia is a journey of finding balance—between desire and necessity, between the characters he plays and his own personal identity, between the spotlight's glamour and inner solitude.

In this work, the body becomes the core of exploration. Reza sees the body as both a tool and a space—constantly moving, sensing, and evolving.

As an actor, he continues to learn and transform, both physically and emotionally. And from that long process comes Eudaimonia—not just an art piece, but a kind of life journal, expressed through a collaborative installation.

Spotlight: Celebrating the Creative Process at ArtJog

The Spotlight program—where Eudaimonia is showcased—is a new initiative at ArtJog 2025. Its aim is to merge visual art with various other creative disciplines and facilitate cross-sector collaboration. This approach allows for the creation of works that are not only visual but also layered with meaning and immersive experience.

Inet Leimena, Director of the Refleksi Dua Dasarasa Reza Rahadian program, describes Eudaimonia as an honest and intimate form of celebration.

“Celebration doesn’t always have to be grand, it can also be a quiet space filled with meaning,” said Inet. According to her, this work offers a reflective moment open to anyone who wishes to feel and contemplate.

Step into Reza Rahadian’s World at ArtJog 2025

For those curious to experience the atmosphere of Eudaimonia firsthand, the installation is open to the public at Jogja National Museum (JNM) throughout ArtJog 2025, from June 20 to August 31, 2025.

This experience promises to offer a new perspective on art, creativity, and the life journey of an actor—one who not only performs on screen but also navigates the inner world of emotion and expression.
