Brunei: With 176,83 Mbps, Brunei managed to emerge as the number 1 Southeast Asian country with the quickest mobile internet connection. As explained by ts2.tech, Brunei boasts nearly 99% of internet penetration and 5G connection covering approximately 90% of populated areas across the nation. What’s unique about the internet infrastructure in Brunei is that it’s integrated under a single wholesale network called the Unified National Networks (UNN), allowing cost savings, rapid improvements, and widespread fiber-to-the-home broadband speeds of 100 Mbps.
Singapore: As one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world, Singapore ranks second in Southeast Asia’s internet speed ranking, with 158,59 Mbps of download speed. Given its cutting-edge technology and modern infrastructure, it is no wonder that Singapore serves a speedy internet connection. Offering a smooth and reliable online experience.
Vietnam: Trailing behind Singapore is Vietnam, with a cellular internet speed reaching 151,69 Mbps. As of mid-2024, nationwide rollout of 4G LTE encompasses nearly 99,8% of the country. Subsequently, in late 2024, Vietnam also launched 5G base stations in 63 provinces.
Malaysia: Malaysia boasts an average download speed of 150,10 Mbps. According to rfbenchmark.com, prominent internet providers in the country have been continuously developing their network over the years, including transitioning to 5G technology.
Thailand: Per July 2025, Thailand marks a mobile internet speed of 117,25 Mbps. Driven by government initiatives, competitive telecom operators, and extensive fiber-optic networks, Thailand is regarded as one of the most digitally connected countries in the Southeast Asian region.
Philippines: Even though the Philippines have an adequate internet connection, it is still rather slow compared to other states in Southeast Asia, with a speed of 58,37 Mbps. Nonetheless, over the past few years, Philippines has made significant progress in developing its digital infrastructure and internet access. As a result, in the beginning of 2025, the Philippines has approximately 97,5 million internet users, comprising 83,8% of the population. This marks a dramatic increase from past years, reflecting Philippines efforts toward digitalization.
Cambodia: With 53,15 Mbps, Cambodia placed number 7 on the Southeast Asia internet speed rank. According to Lomatechnology.com, Cambodia has a growing internet penetration of over 60%, mostly driven by mobile data usage. With several challenges, such as network congestion, limited infrastructure, and shared international bandwidth, the country still struggles in improving its internet connectivity.
Indonesia and Laos: Both Indonesia and Laos have an average mobile internet speed of 42 Mbps, indicating that the two countries still need further improvement in their telecommunication infrastructure to deliver a smoother internet experience.
