Indonesia is strengthening its commitment to digital transformation in the tourism sector with the launch of MaiA (Meticulous Artificial Intelligence of Indonesia).
This AI-based initiative was introduced directly by Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana during an event titled “Transforming Travel Beyond Ordinary Through Intelligence” at the Sapta Pesona Building in Jakarta (28 November).
The launch marks a key milestone in the implementation of the Tourism 5.0 priority program, which focuses on enhancing the quality of national tourism services through smart and adaptive technologies.
A Digital Platform for a More Modern Tourism Experience
MaiA is designed as an artificial intelligence platform accessible through indonesia.travel. Its presence aims to strengthen service quality while simplifying the travel experience for tourists across Indonesia.
In her remarks, Minister Widiyanti emphasized that this technology represents the government’s concrete commitment to building a tourism ecosystem that is “smart, inclusive, and sustainable.”
MaiA: A Digital Companion for Travelers
Minister Widiyanti explained that MaiA is not merely a new innovation but a symbol of renewed spirit in national tourism services. The technology is developed as a digital companion capable of understanding travelers’ needs on a personal level.
From providing travel inspiration and automatically generating routes to accompanying tourists throughout their journey in Indonesia, MaiA is designed to create a more comfortable and confident travel experience.
“This is our step toward shaping tourism that is not only beau2ful to behold, but also intelligent and inclusive for all,” she stated.
As a symbol of the tourism sector’s digital transformation, MaiA also strengthens the connection between travelers and Indonesia’s cultural richness, experiences, and stories.
The platform serves as both an intelligent curator and a digital travel companion through key features such as personalized destination recommendations, automatic itinerary creation, interactive maps, and multilingual destination information summaries.
Responding to Global Traveler Behavior Trends
Minister of Tourism Widiyanti emphasized that the development of MaiA is a direct response to shifting global traveler behavior, where visitors increasingly seek journeys that are more personal, efficient, and easily accessible.
The presence of MaiA is expected to enhance Indonesia’s competitiveness on the international stage while strengthening the government’s efforts to promote sustainable and user-friendly tourism.
“Let us welcome MaiA as a step forward toward a more adaptive, competitive, and world-class future for Indonesian tourism,” she said.
