La Semaine de la Francophonie 2026 officially concluded on April 24 with a vibrant closing ceremony at the Institut Français d’Indonésie (IFI) in Jakarta, marking the end of a week-long celebration of cultural diversity and dialogue across Indonesia. Building on the momentum highlighted in earlier coverage, including reports on regional platforms, the closing event brought together diplomats, artists, and hundreds of enthusiastic attendees—mostly young people—who filled the venue with energy and curiosity.
The evening began with welcoming remarks from Fabien Penone, who reflected on the importance of Francophonie as a bridge between cultures and nations. He emphasized how the French language and shared cultural values continue to foster cooperation, understanding, and solidarity across continents. The speech was followed by remarks from the Ambassador of Romania to Indonesia, who also serves as the president of the Francophonie group in Indonesia, underscoring the collaborative spirit among Francophone countries represented in Jakarta.
Following the speeches, ambassadors from participating countries joined together for a group photo with attendees, symbolizing unity and friendship within the Francophone community. The atmosphere quickly shifted into a lively cultural gathering as guests were invited to explore a wide array of culinary offerings prepared by 13 participating embassies.
Attendees were treated to a unique gastronomic experience featuring dishes from countries such as Seychelles, Morocco, Egypt, Chile, Switzerland, Hungary, Belgium, France, Canada, Ukraine, Uruguay, Rwanda, and Tunisia. The food stations became interactive spaces where visitors could not only sample national specialties but also engage directly with diplomats and representatives, learning more about each country’s culture and traditions.
This informal exchange highlighted one of the core values of Francophonie: bringing people together through shared experiences. For many young attendees, the evening offered a rare opportunity to connect with international communities in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
As the night progressed, the celebration continued with a lively DJ set by an Indonesian performer, transforming the cultural evening into a festive closing party. Music filled the venue, encouraging guests to mingle, dance, and celebrate the spirit of diversity that defined the week.
The closing ceremony served as a fitting finale to Francophonie Week 2026, reinforcing Indonesia’s growing role within the global Francophone community. More than just a cultural festival, the event once again demonstrated how language, food, and the arts can create meaningful connections and lasting impressions across borders.
