Band indie rock asal Korea Selatan The Rose has officially been announced as the closing headliner of the Prambanan Jazz Festival (PJF) on July 5 at the grounds of Prambanan Temple, the UNESCO World Heritage site built in the ninth century.

This will be the first time The Rose performs at an open-air heritage venue of this kind, and their first return to Indonesia since the Dawn to Dusk Asia Tour in Jakarta in January 2024.

The announcement quickly generated significant attention on social media. Prambanan Jazz Festival CEO Anas Syahrul Alimi said the invitation was a direct response to strong demand from the band's fan community.

“We saw many Black Roses responding to our lineup wishlist, and it was more than just a wishlist. It was a calling,” Anas said. “We are answering that call on the Prambanan Jazz stage this year.”

Who Is The Rose?

The Rose debuted in 2017 with the single Sorry, which gained greater recognition internationally than it did in South Korea. Just six months after their debut, they had already embarked on a European tour.

Following a hiatus caused by contractual disputes and the mandatory military service of three members, the band returned in 2022 with their first full-length album, HEAL, which reached No. 4 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart.

The achievement also made them the highest-charting Korean rock band on Billboard’s Emerging Artists ranking at the time.

The accompanying HEAL Together World Tour attracted more than 90,000 attendees worldwide.

Their second album, DUAL (2023), entered the Billboard 200 at No. 83, marking the band's first appearance on the chart.

That momentum carried over to the festival circuit. The Rose performed at the Lollapalooza Chicago in 2023 and later at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, where they became the first Korean rock band to perform on the festival’s Outdoor Theatre stage. They closed their set with Wonder, accompanied by the USC Trojan Marching Band.

The Rose's Footprint in Southeast Asia

Indonesia is not unfamiliar territory for The Rose.

The band first entered the region through the HEAL Together World Tour, performing at Balai Sarbini on January 6, 2023. They returned to Jakarta on January 18, 2024, for the Dawn to Dusk Asia Tour at The Kasablanka Hall.

In the Philippines, they performed at SM North EDSA Sky Dome on January 14, 2023, just one week after their Jakarta concert, as part of the same tour.

Their appearance at PJF 2026, however, will be different from any of their previous concerts in the region.

Members Woosung, Dojoon, Hajoon, and Jaehyeong will perform on an open-air stage beneath the silhouette of a temple that is more than eleven centuries old.

The enthusiasm surrounding the festival itself is equally notable. The 2025 edition of Prambanan Jazz Festival attracted 76,000 attendees, around 70 percent of whom traveled from outside Yogyakarta.

For Black Roses in Indonesia, the Philippines, and across Southeast Asia, this represents a rare opportunity: to see The Rose perform not inside a concert hall, but in front of one of the largest Hindu temples in the world.
