Their victories began during the inaugural 1996 edition in Singapore. Subsequent trophy lifts followed in 2000, 2002, 2014, 2016, 2020, and 2022.
Out of their ten final appearances, the team won seven titles and finished as runners-up three times in 2007, 2008, and 2012.
The squad also features the all-time top scorer in tournament history, Teerasil Dangda, who has scored 20 goals across his career appearances.
Singapore, the Perfect Record in Finals
The Singapore national football team ranks as the second most successful team in the tournament.
Singapore has secured four official titles over its history. Their title runs occurred in 1998, 2004, 2007, and 2012.
During the 2007 edition, Singapore forward Noh Alam Shah set the record for the most goals scored in a single tournament with ten goals.
The Singapore national football team maintains a unique statistical record at the top level. Their national football team has reached the final match four times and won the trophy on every single occasion.
Viet Nam, the Rising Major Power
The Viet Nam national football team stands third on the historical winners list with two championships. Their first title arrived in 2008 following a dramatic two-legged final victory against Thailand.
A two-legged final means both teams play one match in their home stadium, and the winner is decided by the combined total score. Viet Nam secured the 2008 trophy with a 3-2 aggregate victory, winning 2-1 in Bangkok before drawing 1-1 in Hanoi.
Their second trophy came ten years later in the 2018 edition. Vietnam lifted the cup after beating Malaysia 3-2 on aggregate, drawing 2-2 in Kuala Lumpur and winning 1-0 in Hanoi.
The Viet Nam national football team has also finished as runners-up on two occasions, in 1998 and 2022. They regularly qualify for the knockout stage, which is the elimination round that follows the opening group matches.
Malaysia, Breaking the Barrier in 2010
The Malaysia national football team holds one championship title in the history of the competition. Their landmark victory arrived during the 2010 edition.
They secured the trophy after defeating Indonesia with a 4-2 aggregate score over two legs in the final match. Malaysia won the first leg 3-0 in Kuala Lumpur before Indonesia secured a 2-1 victory in the return match in Jakarta.
The Malaysian football team has also reached the final on three other occasions. They finished as tournament runners-up in 1996, 2014, and 2018 after losing those decisive title matches.
Indonesia, the Runner-up of Six Finals
The Indonesia national football team holds a unique statistical position in the competition. The nation has reached the final match six times without ever lifting the trophy.
Their runner-up finishes occurred in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2010, 2016, and 2020. This streak makes the Indonesia national football team the side with the most final losses in Southeast Asian football history.
Despite missing out on the championship trophy, the Indonesia national football team continues to qualify for the deciding rounds of the tournament.
