A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, causing massive destruction as buildings, bridges, and even a monastery collapsed, while thousands of lives were lost and injured.
Neighboring Thailand also felt the impact, with a 30-story building under construction in Bangkok crumbling, trapping dozens under the rubble and triggering an urgent rescue effort.
In a rare move, Myanmar’s military leader, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, appealed for international assistance, prompting aid offers from the US, India, France, and the World Health Organization.
However, with the country facing ongoing political turmoil and limited resources, humanitarian organizations warn that delivering aid directly to those in need will be a major challenge, while rescuers continue their desperate search for survivors.
