Indonesia is set to strengthen its regional food trade by targeting the export of 2,000 tons of rice to Malaysia each month, marking a significant move to support supply stability across borders.
This initiative, led by the National Food Agency (Bapanas) and in partnership with relevant logistics and trade authorities, is part of Indonesia’s broader effort to optimize its rice surplus and build stronger agricultural ties within ASEAN.
Officials have emphasized that the exported rice will not affect domestic food security, as Indonesia has maintained sufficient reserves following a series of successful harvests and proactive supply management.
By responding to Malaysia’s import needs while leveraging its own production capacity, Indonesia is positioning itself as a reliable food partner in the region — helping address rising demand amid global supply challenges and climate-related uncertainties.
