Indonesia officially signed a landmark contract with Türkiye's TAIS Shipyards for two MILGEM Istif-class stealth frigates at IDEF 2025 defense exhibition in Istanbul, making Indonesia the first foreign operator of Türkiye's next-generation warships.

The historic agreement was signed in the presence of Haluk Görgün, President of Türkiye's Defence Industries (SSB), alongside Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Air Marshall Yusuf Jauhari, head of Indonesia's Defense Facilities Agency.

Valued at approximately USD 1 billion, this contract represents Türkiye's largest naval export package in history and Indonesia's most strategic naval acquisition, featuring advanced 113-meter frigates with 3,100-ton displacement and cutting-edge Turkish-developed weapons systems.

The Istif-class frigates are equipped with 16-cell MIDLAS Vertical Launch Systems, HISAR air defense missiles, ATMACA anti-ship missiles with 220-kilometer range, and ASELSAN Gökdeniz Close-In Weapon Systems for comprehensive maritime defense capabilities.

This procurement significantly strengthens Indonesia's naval modernization agenda for its expansive 17,000-island maritime domain while positioning Türkiye as a rising global defense supplier alongside deepening bilateral defense cooperation between the two nations.
