Indonesia has achieved a critical step toward joining the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) by officially submitting its Initial Memorandum during the 2025 OECD Ministerial Council Meeting in Paris.
The document, presented by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, outlines Indonesia’s alignment with over 250 OECD legal instruments across economic, governance, and social policy areas.
OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann welcomed Indonesia’s progress, highlighting the country’s strong commitment to reform, transparency, and international cooperation.
This milestone marks the beginning of a comprehensive technical review by OECD committees, aimed at assessing Indonesia’s readiness for full membership.
If successful, Indonesia will become the first Southeast Asian country to join the OECD, reinforcing its role as a key player in the global economic landscape.
