Indonesia is working to ease trade rules and negotiate with the United States after Washington announced a steep 32% tariff on its exports, a move that threatens key industries like electronics, textiles, and palm oil.

President Prabowo Subianto has ordered his cabinet to simplify regulations and remove non-tariff barriers, while a delegation will soon head to Washington to discuss alternatives before the tariffs take effect on April 9, 2025.

In the meantime, Indonesia is coordinating with Malaysia as ASEAN chair and urging for bilateral agreements, while industry leaders call for exploring new markets and relaxing export policies.

Despite the economic uncertainty and looming financial market turbulence, the government and central bank are working to maintain currency stability and investor confidence in the face of global pressures.
