South Korea and Indonesia have agreed to transfer Indonesia’s first KF‑21 Boramae fighter jet prototype, bringing the long-running joint fighter program closer to its final stage. Jakarta is expected to receive the fifth single-seat KF‑21 once the remaining payment is completed. The transfer marks a significant step toward moving the program from development into production.

Officials confirmed that the aircraft has already been used in key verification tests, including aerial refuelling, providing Indonesia with a flight-tested platform. The agreement was reached during working-level talks in February and confirmed by South Korea’s Defence Acquisition Program Administration.

The handover underscores both nations’ intent to maintain their partnership despite earlier disputes over payments and technology transfer levels.

The fifth prototype is more than symbolic; it has been used for critical verification trials, ensuring the aircraft meets operational requirements. Its transfer allows Indonesia to continue training, evaluation, and eventual integration into its air force.
