Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has instructed ride-hailing companies such as GoTo and Grab to provide holiday bonuses to drivers ahead of the Eid holiday.
The bonuses will be calculated based on the drivers’ work activities, with details to be discussed between the companies and the Ministry of Manpower.
The policy aims to help around 250,000 active drivers and 1.5 million part-time workers enjoy the Eid holiday with better financial conditions, while also encouraging public consumption to boost economic growth.
However, the policy also adds to the cost burden for GoTo and Grab, which are struggling to achieve profitability after years of heavy investment to compete in the market.
