Indonesian automotive manufacturer PT Mobil Anak Bangsa Indonesia (MABI) is preparing to launch the country's first solar-powered electric vehicle, with pricing set below 150 million rupiah (approximately $8,900), making it one of the most affordable clean energy vehicles in Southeast Asia.

The groundbreaking project represents a collaboration between PT MABI, solar technology company Solarky, and investment firm Fortuna Ventura, combining locally developed automotive engineering with advanced solar panel integration to create a fully Indonesian-designed sustainable transportation solution.

According to company announcements, the solar-powered EV will feature integrated photovoltaic panels that can recharge the vehicle's battery through sunlight, reducing dependence on conventional charging infrastructure while offering Indonesian consumers an eco-friendly alternative in the growing electric vehicle market.

PT MABI's initiative aligns with Indonesia's broader push toward automotive industry self-reliance and green transportation, positioning the nation as an innovator in solar-electric vehicle technology while addressing environmental concerns and the government's carbon reduction targets.

The affordable pricing strategy aims to make electric mobility accessible to middle-income Indonesian buyers, potentially disrupting the domestic automotive market while demonstrating that locally produced, environmentally sustainable vehicles can compete with imported alternatives and accelerate the country's transition toward clean energy transportation.
