Starting August 17, 2025, Indonesians visiting Japan will be able to make purchases using QRIS, the country’s national QR payment system — marking a major step in cross-border digital finance.
This milestone allows Indonesian travelers to pay seamlessly in yen using their domestic apps, without currency exchange hassles, directly connecting Bank Indonesia’s system to Japanese merchants.
Authorities also confirmed that integration with China and India is currently underway, aiming to expand QRIS acceptance across more key travel and trade destinations in Asia.
The move reflects a broader vision of financial inclusion and regional digital connectivity, where everyday spending abroad becomes as easy as shopping at home.
