Myanmar has enacted a nationwide ban on e-cigarettes and vaping products, citing rising health concerns, particularly among youth, according to reports by VnExpress, Bernama, and the state-run Global New Light of Myanmar.

The directive, issued by the Ministry of Health with Cabinet approval on February 18, prohibits the import, export, sale, possession, storage, distribution, and use of e-cigarettes, electronic shisha devices, and related accessories across the country.

Authorities said enforcement will fall under the Essential Supplies and Services Law, meaning individuals or businesses that violate the rules could face legal consequences as the government intensifies oversight of both online and physical marketplaces.

Kyaw Kan Kaung, Deputy Director General of the Department of Public Health, stressed that the belief that e-cigarettes are safer than conventional tobacco is misleading, noting that they still contain addictive nicotine, heavy metals, and other harmful substances that pose serious risks to lung and overall health.

Officials emphasized that the measure is designed to safeguard public health and curb the growing popularity of vaping among young people, while nationwide inspections and stricter enforcement are set to follow.
