Taiwanese semiconductor giant United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) has launched a new US$5 billion wafer fabrication facility in Singapore, expanding its presence in the country’s thriving tech sector.

This advanced facility, which is 60% larger than UMC’s existing site at Pasir Ris Wafer Fab Park, will significantly boost the company’s total production capacity to over one million wafers annually by 2026.

The expansion is expected to create around 700 high-value jobs in Singapore, including positions in research and development as well as process and equipment engineering.

With this investment, UMC strengthens Singapore’s role as a global semiconductor hub while contributing to innovation and economic growth in the region.
