Viet Nam’s national team has seen a significant jump in the April 2025 FIFA rankings, climbing five places to 109th – their best finish in seven years.
The rise was thanks to wins over Cambodia in friendlies and Laos in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, coupled with impressive results in late 2024, such as a crucial win over Thailand in the ASEAN Cup final.
In total, Viet Nam have collected 19.04 points and are now edging closer to the world’s top 100; this is their highest ranking since February 2024 when they were 105th and also their biggest rise since August 2018.
However, Viet Nam are not the only Southeast Asian team to have improved: Myanmar rose seven places to 162nd, Indonesia and the Philippines rose four places to 123rd and 146th respectively, Malaysia rose one place to 132nd, while Thailand dropped two places to 99th but are still the best team in the region; FIFA will release the next rankings in July.
