A leading company in the state-of-the-art technology Apple is inclined to set up a research and development centre in Indonesia. Communication and Information Minister Rudiantara said that mutual consent had been made with the company headquatered in America.

“Indonesia will be home to Apple’s R & D centre outside the US, the second-largest in the world after that of Brazil. We should pride ourselves on this”. He was quoted as saying in the Idocomtech 2016 on Wednesday in JCC Senayan.

Previously, Govt had summoned a meeting with Apple along with its Asia-Pacific representative and those from Silicon Valey. In the wake of the meeting, it is planned that the R & D will be built in 2017 as the local component law is effectively pertained.

“They have to (build), if not, they will not be permitted to sell iPhone 7, people can buy it overseas instead,” Rudiantara said.

In the process, the Ministry of Communication and Informationin will work in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Industry. In respect of permit, Rudiantara indicates Apple’s big commitment to applying for it.

“It (permit) is already in the pipeline”. He added.

Albeit the place remains obscure, Rudiantara stated that Apple had found some alternatives. However, he suggested that it is not Jakarta but somewhere else.

“I hope it’s not in Jakarta. Why? Indonesia is not only Jakarta nor Java. It should be Indonesia-centric.”
