The latest report from tech watchdogs Rotten WiFi reveals the Top 20 airports worldwide for best WiFi access in 2016. Data clearly shows that situation is gradually changing with airports improving their digital access and enabling customers to get online. WiFi speed and quality have been tested in 226 airports worldwide.

USA and Thailand are leading the way in the digital revolution, with 7 and 6 airports featuring on the Top 20 global list respectively. As Internet access becomes more important in daily routines it’s increasingly something that travellers not only appreciate but have come to expect when waiting for a flight.

While overall Internet speed improved across all airports this year, it was the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport, USA, the topped the list. The Arkansas airport had average download speeds of 42.17 Mbps and a customer satisfaction rate of 8 out of 10. Taking second spot is Estonian airport Lennart Meri Tallinn with 38.30 Mbps followed by last year’s number one spot holder Don Mueang International Airport, Thailand, left this year with avg. download speed of 37.10 Mbps.

Besides, 5 new airports made the cut to Top 20 list this year: 3 of them located in the USA – Tampa International, Pagr Field and Tulsa International Airports; also Vilnius International Airport in Lithuania and Juanda International Airport in Indonesia.

Broken down by the continents, airports in Europe providing best WiFi as reported by travellers were before mentioned Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport in Estonia (38.30 Mbps), Vilnius International Airport (24.04 Mbps) and Berlin-Tegel International Airport in Germany (14.68 Mbps). Overall even 5 German airports made to the regional Top 10.

Kuala Lumpur International (34.02 Mbps) and Chiang Mai International (32.80 Mbps) were in second and third place, respectively, in Asia, after leader Don Mueang (37.10 Mbps), while in North America, Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport (33.53 Mbps) and Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (32.22 Mbps) followed Clinton National (42.17 Mbps). This rotation is the same as in 2015 just with slight speed changes.

The best of South America was Guanare Airport in Venezuela with 8.20 Mbps download speed on average.
