Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) rose to second place on the list of the world's most connected airports and ranked first in the Asia-Pacific region. While its total number of connections is not as high as some other hubs, its connectivity efficiency is key to its success. AirAsia, which operates 35% of KUL’s flights, played a significant role in this achievement.
The report also highlights Asia's dominance in the global aviation network, with 8 out of the top 20 airports located in the Asia-Pacific region. The widespread growth of connectivity in Southeast Asia (4 airports) and Northeast Asia (4 airports) reflects the rise and expansion of these regions.

Low-cost carriers (LCCs) are increasingly dominating the aviation industry in the Asia-Pacific region. This is evident from the number of airports in the region that have made it to the Top 25 LCC Megahubs list.
In particular, in Southeast Asia, LCCs account for more than 60% of flight capacity. Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) and Manila (MNL) stand out, with KUL offering the highest number of LCC connections and MNL showing a significant rise in rankings.
