The OAG Megahubs 2024 report, now in its 10th year, provides a comprehensive ranking of the world's leading international airports in terms of connectivity. Using the most accurate flight schedule data, the report compares the number of flight connections and destinations served by each airport.

The analysis offers valuable insights into how flight connectivity patterns continue to evolve, identifying the most strategic airports for business development and investment.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) rose to second place on the list of the world's most connected airports and ranked first in the Asia-Pacific region. While its total number of connections is not as high as some other hubs, its connectivity efficiency is key to its success. AirAsia, which operates 35% of KUL’s flights, played a significant role in this achievement.

The report also highlights Asia's dominance in the global aviation network, with 8 out of the top 20 airports located in the Asia-Pacific region. The widespread growth of connectivity in Southeast Asia (4 airports) and Northeast Asia (4 airports) reflects the rise and expansion of these regions.

Low-cost carriers (LCCs) are increasingly dominating the aviation industry in the Asia-Pacific region. This is evident from the number of airports in the region that have made it to the Top 25 LCC Megahubs list.

In particular, in Southeast Asia, LCCs account for more than 60% of flight capacity. Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) and Manila (MNL) stand out, with KUL offering the highest number of LCC connections and MNL showing a significant rise in rankings.

The Asia-Pacific region is further solidifying its position as a global aviation connectivity hub, with several airports ranking among the world’s top. Kuala Lumpur (KUL) leads as the most connected airport in Asia-Pacific, largely driven by AirAsia’s dominance.

Tokyo Haneda (HND) and Incheon (ICN) follow in second and third place, strengthened by traditional carriers that bolster their positions. Meanwhile, Bangkok (BKK), Singapore (SIN), Manila (MNL), and Indonesia (CGK) also rank in the top 10, highlighting Southeast Asia’s crucial role. The growth of low-cost carriers such as AirAsia and Cebu Pacific has also contributed to the region's increasing connectivity.
