For The First Time, the Philippines Hailed as World’s Leading Beach for Dive Destination

At the 29th World Travel Awards gala ceremony on November 11 in Muscat, Oman, the Philippines was recognized as the 2022 World's Leading Beach Destination. This is the first time the nation has taken first place.

The Philippines outperformed other contenders such the Turks & Caicos Islands, Mexico, Thailand, Jamaica, Greece, Santa Monica, Mexico, Maui, the Maldives, and Ecuador's Galapagos Islands.

The tropical nation also won the title of World's Leading Dive Destination for a fourth straight year, besting French Polynesia, the Maldives, the Azores Islands, Belize, Fiji, the Galapagos Islands, and Australia's Great Barrier Reef.

The Philippines have again won the titles of Asia's Leading Beach Destination and Asia's Leading Dive Destination for 2022 in addition to the World's Leading honours.

Three additional Philippine businesses were also honored this year by the World Travel Awards: Ascott Bonifacio Global City Manila was named the World's Leading Serviced Apartments, Amanpulo was named the World's Leading Dive Resort, and City of Dreams Manila was named the World's Leading Casino Resort. Additionally, Intramuros recaptured the title of Top Tourist Attraction in Asia.

Siargao and Cebu were both nominated for the title of "World's Leading Island Destination 2022" and "Asia's Leading Wedding Destination 2022," respectively, but Madeira Islands and Bali, Indonesia, won those titles.

On their website, the World Travel Awards state that they "acknowledge, recognize, and celebrate achievement across all important sectors of the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries."

The company chooses from nominations in Asia, the Caribbean, Central America, Europe, the Indian Ocean, the Middle East, North America, Oceania, and South America. The brand is "known globally as the highest hallmark of industry excellence."

The Maldives were also nominated in both categories, but the country won out over 18 beaches and 10 dive locations, it was announced on November 11.

According to Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco, "The distinction as World's Leading Beach and Dive Destination by the World Travel Awards 2022 is a global win for the Philippines that evinces the unmatched beauty of our country and the distinctive kindness of the Filipino people."

The Philippines and local brands also copped top spots in Asia, including Intramuros as Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction in 2022.

Meanwhile, the country was also nominated in the following categories:
- World's Leading Island Destination 2022
- World's Leading Tourist Board 2022
- Asia's Leading Tourist Board 2022
- Asia's Leading Wedding Destination 2022
