Attention Formula E fans! The Prime Minister of Thailand, Srettha Thavisin, announced via social media X that Thailand will celebrate the arrival of the Formula E series next year. In his post on March 9, he mentioned the opportunity to have a relaxed conversation with the Formula E executive team and conveyed their interest in organizing an electric vehicle racing competition in Thailand.
The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, often referred to as Formula E, has gained international recognition for organizing electric car racing competitions since its debut in Beijing in 2014. Over time, the championship has been recognized by the FIA as a world championship.
PM Thavisin, emphasizing Thailand's commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, sees this event as an opportune time to boost the economy and improve the country's infrastructure. He also stated that Thailand has increasingly embraced electric vehicles (EVs), with 40% of total car orders since last year being electric vehicles.
The proposed competition in Chiang Mai will not only provide an exhilarating electric racing experience, but will also enhance Thailand's reputation as a tourism and innovation hub in the region. Formula E officials will conduct a site inspection in Chiang Mai next week to ensure its suitability to host the championship. PM Thavisin believes that hosting international events such as this will enhance Thailand's reputation as a premier tourist destination in the region.
