Malaysia's Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced the nation's decision to formally apply for membership in BRICS, the economic bloc of emerging economies. The announcement came during an interview with Chinese media outlet Guancha, where Anwar confirmed the decision and the upcoming initiation of the official process.

This move by Malaysia holds strategic importance due to its geographic location along the Malacca Strait, a vital shipping route connecting the Pacific and Indian Ocean. Anwar highlighted the significance of BRICS and China's rise in creating a multipolar world, offering a counterbalance to Western dominance.

Malaysia joins a growing list of nations expressing interest in BRICS membership, with over 30 countries reportedly considering joining the bloc. The upcoming BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, scheduled for October, may be a pivotal moment for the organization's expansion.
