Indonesia is set to redesign and recolor its passports, with the new versions to be issued on the country’s 80th Independence Anniversary on August 17, 2025.
“These preparations are for August 17, 2025, and the design will be unveiled on August 17, 2024,” said Silmy Karim, Director General of Immigration at the Law and Human Rights Ministry, on Friday.
Silmy elaborated that the redesign and recoloring efforts aim to symbolize growth and progression. He affirmed the Immigration Department’s dedication to offering the most secure and high-quality passports, and mentioned that the updates would include advanced security features.
Per Silmy, international regulations necessitate passport security upgrades every three years. The new passports will include these security enhancements, such as new color schemes and verification processes. “For instance, there will be UV light features and additional holograms. Further details on photo printing methods will follow,” Silmy explained.
Presently, Indonesian passports have light blue or turquoise covers for general passports, blue covers for official passports, and black covers for diplomatic passports. The current passport covers display a gold Garuda bird emblem. As of January 2020, Indonesian passports grant visa-free access to 85 countries and territories.
