Israel's Aggression and Occupation of Palestine Has Sparked Global Sympathy, Including in Indonesia. Data from the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) recorded that from October 7, 2023, to July 13, 2024, there were 39,017 deaths, 93,781 injuries, and more than 200,000 people displaced. In response to this situation, the Indonesian public has shown tangible support through the boycott of products affiliated with Israel.

To understand the Indonesian public's perception and behavior towards this boycott, GoodStats-a data and statistics media in Indonesia-conducted an online survey from July 15-28, 2024, with 1,000 respondents aged 18-58 from across the country.

Strong Public Support for Boycott

The survey results indicate that nearly all respondents (95.3%) are aware of the boycott movement, with 77.2% actively participating in it in their daily lives, reflecting a strong commitment to the humanitarian issue in Palestine.

The survey also explored public opinions on the criteria for companies considered unaffiliated with Israel. Approximately 49.5% of respondents believe that companies genuinely free from Israeli involvement, either as shareholders or investors, are viable alternatives. This finding reflects how the public evaluates corporate involvement or independence in the context of the boycott movement.

Public Confidence in Boycott's Impact

Although many actively participate in the boycott of products affiliated with Israel, the survey shows that 49.5% of respondents feel neutral or do not face significant difficulties. About 32.7% experience no difficulties at all, indicating that adequate alternative products are available. Only 17.8% of respondents face challenges in finding substitutes.

Regarding the effectiveness of the boycott, the majority of respondents (55.1%) believe that boycotting Israeli products can have a significant impact and may pressure or halt the aggression against Palestine. However, there is some disagreement on this; 15.8% of respondents feel the boycott will be ineffective, while 30.1% are uncertain about how much influence the boycott can have on the situation.

There is significant support for the boycott of Israel-affiliated products so far. Although there are diverse opinions on the matter, are you among those who participate in the boycott?
