Many people still mistakenly believe that the Institut Français Indonesia (IFI) and the French Embassy are the same entity. However, this view is not entirely correct. Although the IFI operates under the French Embassy, it is an independent body dedicated to promoting cultural and educational cooperation between France and Indonesia.

On Monday, December 16, Seasians and Kawan GNFI had the unique opportunity to visit the French Embassy directly. During this visit, many fascinating insights emerged, including the relationship between IFI and the French Embassy, which may not be widely known.

So what interesting facts did GNFI discover during this visit? Let's explore further.

Your Path to France Awaits!

Have you ever thought about studying in France? Known for its art, culture and quality education, France offers great opportunities for Indonesian students. According to the Institut Français Indonesia (IFI) and Campus France, Indonesia sends between 400 and 600 scholarship students to France every year.

Interestingly, most higher education institutions in France are public universities that do not have a ranking system, so all universities have the same quality, which is guaranteed by the government. What's more, international students at the Master's level can receive grants of up to 70% of the tuition fees, with an additional possibility of a reduction of up to 50% under certain conditions.

Imagine, with tuition fees around IDR 5 million per year, students also enjoy various benefits such as a 40% housing subsidy, 50% transportation discount, free health insurance, and discounts on entertainment and other facilities.

A Year of Exciting IFI Activities

The Institut Français Indonesia (IFI) offers a wide range of activities that are not only for those intending to continue their studies in France but also open to the general public, from cultural events to enjoyable entertainment.

From January to December, IFI never lacks exciting events. It hosts various activities that are not limited to students or art enthusiasts but are also designed for the general public.

From the Open House event held every September to the French Gastronomy Week and the French Film Festival in November, IFI offers diverse experiences that invite participation from all walks of life.

Recently, IFI Jakarta organized the Club de Conversation and Gaming x Gastronomy Night. IFI Gamers, one of their regular events, invites everyone—whether beginners, enthusiasts, or experts—to gather and discuss the latest developments in the French gaming industry while enjoying a relaxed coffee gathering.

With this range of activities, IFI not only serves as a hub for exploring French culture but also creates an open space for anyone who wants to engage with a community rich in information and creative activities.

A Fun Day at the IFI

To wrap up the series of activities at the French Embassy, participants were invited to join a French conversation class and explore the Mediatek IFI facility—a space that offers an impressive collection of books, films, and gaming devices like PS5 and Nintendo Switch, all available to the public for free.

The event concluded with a fun game of Devine de Tête, sparking laughter and camaraderie among the participants. This wasn’t just a visit; it was a gateway to gaining a deeper understanding of French culture and language in a warm and enjoyable atmosphere.

With so many moments that ignited curiosity, this visit marked not the end of the journey, but the beginning of a new story. So, are you ready for the next embassy visit? Don't miss out on more exciting experiences!
