Malaysia has been named Asia's safest and most peaceful destination by Travel + Leisure magazine, an accolade that is expected to boost domestic tourism and attract more international travelers. The recognition is based on the Holiday Relaxation Report by wellness retreat platform Book Retreats.
The report scored 76 destinations on nine indicators, including protected areas, forest cover, population density, noise and light pollution, and wellness experiences. With scores ranging from 1 to 100 for each indicator, Malaysia ranked first in Asia for safety, tranquility and peace. It's no surprise that the country is an ideal choice for those seeking a respite from daily stress.
Globally, Malaysia ranks 20th for serenity, open spaces and wellness activities. It also secured 8th place as one of the safest vacation destinations, supported by high scores on the Global Peace Index.
Malaysia: A Safe Haven for Tourists
Datuk Mohd Salleh Saidin, Chairman of the Kedah Tourism Committee, welcomed the recognition as a significant boost to the Visit Kedah 2025 (VK2025) campaign, as reported by the New Straits Times.
Kedah, particularly Langkawi, remains a top tourist destination with world-class facilities, including an international airport.
Salleh highlighted the ongoing preparations for VK2025, which aims to attract more tourists by shifting the focus to mainland Kedah, while Langkawi continues to shine as the region's flagship attraction.
