Eid al-Fitr 2025 is expected to once again mark the peak of mass movement across Indonesia. In response, the Indonesian government is preparing for the surge in mobility, following President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to ensure safe and comfortable travel for the public.
The deeply rooted tradition of homecoming (mudik) in Indonesian culture makes this surge unique compared to other holiday seasons, requiring meticulous coordination and more innovative solutions.
From optimizing infrastructure to enhancing land, sea, and air transport services, various measures are being taken to ease congestion. A joint command post involving multiple ministries and agencies has also been established to strengthen coordination and oversight.
Holiday Deals for Eid Travel
The government is offering incentives such as toll discounts on several major roads and a free homecoming program for 100,000 travelers using buses, trains, and ferries. The Ministry of Tourism is also playing a role in ensuring smooth travel and tourism services, making Eid 2025 a more seamless experience for all.
In addition, there’s more good news—domestic economy-class airfare will be reduced by 13–14%. This policy applies nationwide from March 24 to April 7, 2025, with ticket sales starting on March 1.
This initiative allows the public to plan their journeys at more affordable prices, making this year’s Eid homecoming not just a tradition but also a more enjoyable experience.
Discover Local Destinations
As part of efforts to boost domestic tourism during the Eid homecoming period, the Ministry of Tourism has launched the #MudikYuk and #LebarandiJakartaAja campaigns. These initiatives encourage travelers to explore tourist destinations, whether near their hometowns or in the capital for those who are not traveling back to their origins.
With a target of 1.08 billion domestic trips in 2025, this campaign is also part of the #DiIndonesiaAja movement and the Bangga Berwisata di Indonesia / Proud to Travel in Indonesia (BBWI) program. A variety of curated travel deals and packages have been made available through collaborations with state-owned enterprises, tourism associations, and industry players.
Information about these promotions can be accessed via the Ministry of Tourism’s social media channels, the Indonesia.travel website, and QR codes placed at airports, train stations, and shopping centers.
Throughout Ramadan, the Ministry is also actively promoting destinations that highlight cultural traditions and local culinary specialties. Additionally, tourism businesses are encouraged to offer extra promotions, including discounts on transportation tickets and accommodations.
In an official statement, Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri expressed optimism that these initiatives will not only enhance the travel experience during Eid but also contribute to economic growth, particularly in the tourism sector.
