Bologna FC will face AC Milan in the final of the Coppa Italia. The much-anticipated clash is scheduled to take place at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on May 15th.
Based on their head-to-head record in the Coppa Italia, the two teams have met a total of 14 times. Milan has emerged victorious on six occasions, while Bologna has claimed five wins. The remaining three matches have ended in draws.
In their most recent Coppa Italia encounter, Milan was defeated 6-7 on penalties after the match ended 1-1 in regular time. This penalty shootout took place during the second leg of the quarterfinals in the 1996-1997 Coppa Italia season.
“It was an objective, a dream of this city and the club. We achieved something wonderful, honoring the Coppa Italia from the start, because when you get to the final sprint, everyone wants to reach the Final,” Bologna Coach Vincenzo Italiano told Sport Mediaset.
“We dedicate this achievement to the crowd in this incredible stadium, who push the lads on from start to finish. We dedicate it to the people of Bologna with all our heart,” said Italiano.
Bologna’s journey to the Coppa Italia final has been nothing short of surprising. Last summer, they lost their coach Thiago Motta, who joined Juventus. They also saw their forward Joshua Zirkzee move to Manchester United and their defender Riccardo Calafiori join Arsenal.
“I just hope we can put on a great show and face the final with courage. We will be up against a great team in the final. But the final is a one-off match and anything can happen,” explained Italiano.
