Commemorating the nation’s 60th birthday—Singapore’s greatest light art festival is about to make its comeback by turning the heart of the city—from Marina Bay to the South Beach into an illuminating playground filled with unity, creativity, and of course lots of vibrant lights.
Before heading to the festival, here’s all the details you need to know for a more enjoyable experience at i Light Singapore.
What is i Light Singapore?
As posted on i Light Singapore’s official webpage, I Light Singapore is a mega festival of light organized by The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). The festival will take place in Marina Bay and neighboring areas, including Singapore River and Raffles Place starting from May 29 to June 21, 2025. Opening hours start from 7.30 pm to 11.00 pm daily, with extended hours to 12.00 am only on Fridays and Saturdays.
First premiered in 2010, i Light Singapore features light art works curated by both local and international artists. This year, the festival celebrates unity in diversity with its curatorial theme— “To Gather”.
i Light Singapore 2025 Highlights
I Light Singapore presents an array of must-see light displays. Make sure you don’t miss out on these spectacular light installations.
Top Light Installations to Look Out For
1. Mozart
Location: Steps at the Helix Bridge
In collaboration with StudioGEAR from China, the interactive installation “Mozart” incorporates the shape of a deconstructed grand piano transformed into an abstract white sphere on the staircase. Every step functions as a piano key, creating a captivating sound and light.
2. Piano Walk
Location: Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza
In this installation, visitors get to enjoy a communal musical experience by stepping on piano keys that commences an original composition by John McHugh. Every ten minutes, the artwork will play a tune based on visitor interaction.
3. Embrace
Location: Event Square
Inspired by the shape of paper dolls, throwback to your childhood days by engaging with “Embrace”—a memory-evoking interactive installation by Beamhacker from Australia. When all the visitors get together, the life-sized figure will create a harmony of light and sound, symbolizing connection and unity.
4. Urban Oracle
Location: Pontoon near the Red Dot Design Museum
Along the pontoon’s edge, Urban Oracle lit up the river with 24 illuminated letters creating a futuristic reflection on water. Red colored buttons on the letters produce pulsing lights and AI-generated messages that reflect Singapore’s past, present and future. This installation encourages visitors to contemplate on how technology and tradition can inspire a more sustainable future.
5. Fantastic Planet Series
Location: Mist Walk, Red Dot Design Museum, Waterfront Promenade
Fantastic Planet features three giant luminous humanoid sculptures located in three different locations, creating a whimsical and immersive landscape. Rather than observers, this huge figure flips the point of view by making visitors seem like small objects being watched over. Inspired by the 1973 film “La Planète Sauvage” by René Laloux, the piece serves as a moving reminder of humanity’s disproportionate impact on the planet.
6. VJYourself!
Location: Entrance of Marina Bay Link Mall
Another must-see interactive installation at I Light Singapore is VJYourself—a digital installation that captures reflections and motions of visitors to generate a dynamic choreography. This “magic mirror” embraces the beauty of moments recorded and reinterpreted through technology by transforming individual movements into a joyful collective montage.
7. Bridge of 1,000 Dreams
Location: Cavenagh Bridge
Marking UOB’s 90-year dedication of fostering community dreams, the Bridge of 1,000 Dreams installation is built out of thousand bamboo sticks, each adorned with a unique design crafted by youngsters, representing their hopes for the future. Moreover, this installation also embodies Singapore’s identity as a “Nation by Design”.
8. Reverse Waterfall
Location: UOB Plaza Façade
Different from any typical waterfall, like the name, Reverse Waterfall is a digital art piece composed of thousands of LED tubes resembling a waterfall but upwards. By disrupting familiar notions, the Reverse Waterfall invites visitors into a deeper exploration of the space between assumption and reality.
9. The Guardians
Location: Raffles Place Park
Inspired by the wonder of Singapore’s tropical flora and fauna, this immersive installation incorporates colorful inflatable sculptures powered by solar energy and constructed from recycled material. The abstract flower accents address the themes of landscape, identity, and kinship.
10. Saulux
Location: Fountain Plaza, South Beach Avenue Level 1
Play along with the warm colored field of dense willow twigs in the Saulux installation area. Embedded sensors that transform motion into an evolving musical composition offers a unique sensory experience.
