Beyond economics, people-to-people engagement is becoming increasingly important. Millions of Southeast Asian Muslims travel to Saudi Arabia annually for Umrah and Hajj pilgrimages, creating deep cultural and religious ties that have existed for generations.
At the same time, educational exchanges, tourism, and cultural initiatives are gradually expanding. Saudi Arabia has shown growing interest in Southeast Asia’s diverse cultural landscape, while ASEAN countries are welcoming greater tourism and investment opportunities from the Gulf.
The rise of direct flights, tourism cooperation, and cultural exchanges has also contributed to stronger mutual understanding. In many ASEAN cities today, Gulf tourists, businesses, and cultural collaborations are becoming increasingly visible.
