The 18th edition of the Asia Youth International Model United Nations (AYIMUN) took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from September 29 to October 1, 2025, with the theme “Fostering Diplomacy, Achieving Global Prosperity.” This significant event brought together 1000 delegates from 45 countries, representing a diverse array of nations across Asia, North America, and beyond. Participants from countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, the USA, Canada, and Mexico came together for this prestigious conference to simulate the United Nations, engaging in discussions about critical global issues.
The AYIMUN conference serves as an incredible platform for young people to hone their diplomatic skills and discuss the most pressing challenges the world faces today. The event provided a space for youth to actively participate in diplomacy and solutions-oriented dialogues, preparing them to become tomorrow's leaders in international relations. AYIMUN's mission is to foster understanding, collaboration, and communication among future global leaders, and its impressive gathering of young minds is a testament to the growing importance of youth engagement in global governance.
Youth Engaged in Diplomacy and Dialogue
Throughout AYIMUN 18th, delegates were given opportunities to develop key skills in public speaking, diplomacy, and critical thinking through interactive discussions, debates, and workshops. These activities allowed participants to express their ideas confidently, engage in constructive debates, and work collaboratively with peers from different cultural and professional backgrounds. Delegates practiced negotiating and forming alliances, which are essential skills for future diplomats.
Additionally, AYIMUN encouraged delegates to broaden their perspectives and network with individuals from various backgrounds, enhancing their understanding of global issues. This exposure is crucial for young people, as it helps them better understand the complexities of international relations, diplomacy, and global cooperation. By fostering such discussions, AYIMUN provides an environment where delegates can reflect on the world’s challenges, while also encouraging personal growth and intercultural understanding. Such international forums play a significant role in shaping the academic and professional futures of participants.
Addressing Global Issues Across Eight UN Councils
The conference featured eight distinct councils, each of which tackled specific global issues that are relevant in today's world. Delegates were assigned to different councils and immersed in discussions about urgent concerns, each aiming to propose practical, collaborative solutions. These councils included ECOSOC, which addressed breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty; the World Health Organization (WHO), which focused on the safety and protection of healthcare workers in conflict zones; and the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), which explored the escalation of extrajudicial killings in post-war Syria.
Other councils dealt with significant topics such as UNICEF's efforts to eradicate stunting in Southeast Asia, WTO's challenges with carbon pricing and international trade, and the International Labor Organization’s focus on ethical innovation in integrating AI into the labor market. The UN Tourism council discussed how to balance cultural preservation with environmental protection through sustainable tourism practices, while UNCTAD addressed the challenges of money laundering and its impact on sustainable development. These discussions not only provided an educational platform but also empowered youth to engage with some of the most pressing global issues through dialogue, compromise, and teamwork.

AYIMUN 18th received formal recognition from the Pusat Prestasi Nasional (Puspresnas) under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of Indonesia.
