Fine particles, or PM2.5, are minute particles suspended in the air, measuring less than 2 ½ microns wide—about 30 times smaller than a human hair's width.
Despite their subtle presence, these particles pose substantial health risks. They can infiltrate our lungs and even enter our bloodstream, triggering profound respiratory and cardiovascular complications.
According to the 2019 UNEP Pollution Action Note, fine particle pollution significantly contributes to global mortality. Alarmingly, Indonesia ranks highest in Southeast Asia for deaths linked to this issue, with 41 reported cases per 100,000 people.
This highlights the pressing need for collaborative action to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and curb the widespread impact of PM2.5 pollution.
