Southeast Asia Thinks About China, 2024

74% Southeast Asians are worried about growing influence of China while 27% are welcoming!

The 2024 ASEAN Studies Centre survey examined Southeast Asian attitudes towards increasing Chinese and American geopolitical influence.

The results reveal widespread concern about both powers, with a higher average skepticism towards China, at 74%, compared to 59% for the U.S.

This sentiment is particularly pronounced in countries like Vietnam, where over 95% of respondents expressed worry about China's growing influence, likely influenced by ongoing territorial disputes in the South China Sea.
