Southeast Asia’s supermarket landscape is dominated by a few major players that have built massive retail networks across the region. Leading the list is Indomaret from Indonesia, with more than 17,000 stores, making it the largest supermarket and convenience chain in Southeast Asia. Its dense presence reflects Indonesia’s vast population and strong demand for neighborhood-based retail access.
Close behind is Alfamart, also from Indonesia, operating around 16,000 stores across multiple countries, including Indonesia and the Philippines. Rounding out the top three is Dairy Farm International Holdings, headquartered in Hong Kong, with over 10,000 stores spread across Southeast Asia under various brands such as Giant, Cold Storage, and Guardian. This highlights how regional expansion and brand diversification have been key strategies for retail growth.
Beyond the top three, the list shows the growing influence of regional and international retailers such as VinMart+ from Vietnam, AEON Group from Japan, and Thailand’s Big C. Together, these supermarket chains reflect Southeast Asia’s rapidly evolving consumer market, where urbanization, rising incomes, and changing shopping habits continue to drive fierce competition and large-scale retail expansion across borders.
