The Asia–Pacific region is confronting a severe aviation workforce shortage that will demand extensive recruitment in the coming two decades.
Airbus estimates that the region will require 999,000 additional aviation professionals over the next 20 years, including 268,000 pilots, 298,000 technicians, and 433,000 cabin crew.
This figure accounts for nearly 45% of global demand, underscoring Asia-Pacific’s role as the world’s fastest-growing aviation market and its pressing need for skilled workers.
The call for new pilots is particularly urgent, as Asia-Pacific is projected to face the greatest demand compared to other regions, posing serious challenges for airlines.
To tackle this looming shortage, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is collaborating with governments and industry leaders to implement strategies that ensure a steady pipeline of qualified aviation personnel.
