The Bali government is set to launch a water taxi system to ease severe traffic congestion, particularly in South Bali’s tourism hotspots.
The new transportation mode, backed by the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation, will prioritize routes from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport to Nusa Dua and other major destinations such as Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Canggu, and Uluwatu.
Recent trials using traditional jukung boats showed that the journey from the airport to Uluwatu took around 35-40 minutes, but with modern water taxis, travel time could be reduced to 25-30 minutes.
Alongside this initiative, the government is also exploring seaplane services to boost connectivity in Bali, Labuanbajo, and Sumba, aiming to enhance marine tourism and create a more efficient, sustainable transportation system for both locals and tourists.
