Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi will only consider selling cars outside China starting in 2027, CEO Lei Jun announced during a livestream, confirming the company's previously mentioned timeline for potential overseas EV shipments.

Lei Jun explained that Xiaomi must focus on its domestic market due to robust orders for both the SU7 sedan and newly launched YU7 sports utility vehicle, with the company delivering 28,000 cars in June alone, marking its eighth consecutive month crossing 20,000 deliveries.

The Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan has outsold Tesla's Model 3 on a monthly basis since December 2024, while the YU7 SUV received strong orders within the first 18 hours after going on sale, demonstrating the brand's growing momentum in China's competitive EV market.

CEO Lei Jun previously outlined his ambitious goal to become one of the world's top five carmakers within 15-20 years, targeting over 10 million annual car sales by 2044 as part of Xiaomi's long-term automotive strategy.

The smartphone-turned-automaker has already surpassed 200,000 total deliveries by March 2025, with the SU7 receiving over 248,000 confirmed orders by the end of 2024, establishing a solid foundation before considering international expansion.
