Finland has expressed interest in investing in Indonesia's data center industry during the 2025 G20 Summit in Johannesburg, targeting infrastructure that houses servers, computer systems, and digital facilities driven by Indonesia's rapid digital transformation.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto revealed that "countries with high technology are interested in entering data centers and telecommunications-related sectors," with Finland representing technologically advanced nations seeking opportunities in Indonesia's growing digital economy.
The Finnish investment interest reflects Indonesia's strategic position as Southeast Asia's largest digital economy, where data center demand is surging due to increasing cloud computing adoption, digital services expansion, and government digitalization initiatives requiring robust physical infrastructure.
Beyond Finland, Airlangga confirmed that "several other countries also want cooperation with Indonesia to continue strengthening, especially from an economic perspective," indicating broad international confidence in Indonesia's investment climate and digital infrastructure potential.
The G20 Summit discussions also covered additional investment opportunities including a USD 2.6 billion upstream oil and gas sector investment currently in advanced negotiations between Pertamina and its partners, plus a memorandum of understanding between PT Dahana and Rheinmetall for explosive materials facility development.
