VinSpeed High-Speed Rail Investment and Development JSC, a subsidiary of Vietnam's largest private conglomerate Vingroup, announced construction of a high-speed rail line connecting downtown Ho Chi Minh City to Can Gio will begin in November 2025, with completion expected within 36 months.

General Director Nguyen Anh Tuan revealed at a green transportation seminar hosted by the Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development Studies that the 48.1-kilometer route will reduce travel time to just 16 minutes at speeds of 350 km/h, making it Vietnam's first privately funded high-speed rail project.

The railway will feature two stations - Tan Thuan Station on Nguyen Van Linh Street's median strip and Can Gio Station on a 39-hectare site - with eight-carriage trains capable of carrying 600-800 passengers running every 12 minutes between 2030-2050.

Technical Director Le Van Khoa confirmed VinSpeed will finance the over $4 billion project entirely through private capital without state funding, following Investment Law regulations, while studying construction of a cable-stayed rail bridge over the Soai Rap River.

Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vice-Chairman Bui Xuan Cuong has directed the Department of Finance to collaborate with VinSpeed on finalizing proposals and coordinating with the Department of Construction to establish investment procedures for this unprecedented privately funded urban railway project.
