Thailand's ambitious 220-kilometer high-speed rail project connecting Don Mueang, Suvarnabhumi, and U-Tapao airports is finally set to finalize its contract in July 2025, ending a five-year delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent economic challenges.
Chula Sukmanop, secretary-general of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Policy Committee, confirmed that the meticulous contract review by the Office of the Attorney General is nearing completion, with the signing expected by July following Cabinet approval.
The revolutionary rail system will span five provinces with trains operating at speeds up to 250 kilometers per hour, dramatically reducing travel time between the three major airports to just 60 minutes, transforming Thailand's transportation landscape.
The project will be operated by Asia Era One Company Limited, a consortium led by Charoen Pokphand Group (CP) in partnership with Ch. Karnchang PLC, Bangkok Expressway and Metro PLC, and Italian-Thai Development, representing a major private-public collaboration.
Construction is scheduled to commence immediately after the July contract signing, with the service launch strategically aligned with U-Tapao Airport's expansion to ensure seamless integration of air and rail travel for Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor development.
