Indonesia has officially signed a historic US$10 billion defense agreement with Türkiye to acquire 48 fifth-generation KAAN fighter jets, marking the first major international sale of Türkiye's indigenous stealth aircraft program.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced the landmark deal at the Indo Defence 2025 exhibition in Jakarta, while praising Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto for his role in securing the agreement.
The KAAN aircraft, designed for multirole air superiority and strike missions, includes future capabilities for AI integration and drone teaming as key characteristics of next-generation air combat systems.
Türkiye's first indigenous fifth-generation fighter jet successfully completed its maiden flight in February 2024, with the first units expected to be delivered in 2028.
Türkiye will produce and supply these fighter jets domestically, with the engines also being produced within the country, representing a significant milestone for both nations' defense capabilities and technological sovereignty.
