Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that Indonesia has agreed to purchase 48 KAAN fifth-generation fighter jets from Türkiye in a landmark $10 billion defense deal, marking the first export agreement for Türkiye's advanced domestically-produced aircraft.
The historic agreement was signed at the Indo Defence 2025 exhibition in Jakarta, with Erdoğan praising Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto for his instrumental role in securing this breakthrough defense partnership.
The contract includes technology transfer provisions and will integrate Indonesia's local capabilities into the production process, with the jets to be manufactured in Türkiye and delivered over a ten-year period.
Türkiye's first indigenous fifth-generation KAAN fighter jet successfully completed its maiden flight in 2024, with the first operational units expected to be delivered starting in 2028.
At approximately $208 million per unit, the KAAN offers a cost-effective alternative to other fifth-generation fighters, while this deal strengthens the growing economic and defense cooperation between Türkiye and Indonesia following their earlier agreement on joint Baykar combat-drone factory development.
