Bank Indonesia plans to expand its cross-border QRIS payment system to India, Hong Kong, and Timor-Leste by 2026.
The move would make Timor-Leste the ninth country connected to the QRIS network, following earlier implementations in neighboring Southeast Asian countries.
BI said the expansion aims to simplify international transactions, support cross-border trade, and strengthen regional tourism.
